Offbeat Trip to Amsterdam- Top 5 Things to do in Amsterdam!

Whenever the idea of a trip to Amsterdam comes to our mind, we always think about those stoned backpackers, canal boat rides, red-light districts, and tilted houses. In fact, many of us travel to the Netherlands for the cannabis, coffee shops, and exotic nightlife. But believe me, Amsterdam has a lot more than this.

Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank’s House are amongst my favorites. I spent a couple of days of the trip exploring Amsterdam’s historical buildings, museums, and much more. I even wandered around the Red-light district, munched on to a lot of stuff, and spent hours watching everything at the Amsterdams famous central square Leidseplein.

Whenever I visit a city, I find myself always doing something off the beaten track. I keep ticking off the list of things to do in my bucket list and finding ones I never knew existed.  So, here I’ll be sharing my experience of exploring some of the exotic and offbeat places in Amsterdam.

  • Stepping inside a Houseboat

From childhood, we have heard about houseboats but I never got a chance to experience that, so I decided to do this in Amsterdam. Located close to the famous Anne Frank House and bordering Jordaan, the Houseboat Museum is a place very easy to get to and it won’t even take much of your time. You can capture this amazing place, as photography is allowed and you can also buy souvenirs for your loved ones from a small shop inside this.

Cost: 4.5 EUR

  • The Tulip Museum

I can bet you on this that you would have not seen a place like this before. Located in a room inside a tulip shop, this little place will give you an amazing experience. This was one of the most beautiful places went to.

Cost: 5 EUR (for adults)

  • Blijburg Beach

You will find this beach slightly outside Amsterdam, it is an artificially created city. The atmosphere of this city is so serene and calming and I loved the coziness of this city for sure.

  • Jordaan

Do visit Amsterdam’s bohemian neighborhood, Jordaan. This area is one of my favorites. If you are looking for a place where you want to wander around then head on to this place.

  • Stop by at a local market

Markets like Noodermarkt flea market, Bloomenmarkt (floating flower market) and Bookenmarkt Spui (books market) are a must to visit. Amsterdam is home to many amazing items and pop-up flea markets that give you the true taste of the city.

Don’t forget to take the free ferry rides across the river. These free rides will take you towards the north of the city and you will get a chance to explore some of the lesser-known neighborhoods here.

  • Visit the Nine Streets

It is just two minutes away from the famous royal palace in Dam square. It is a network of picturesque streets crisscrossing Amsterdam’s canals. I got to see some of the amazing boutiques, shops, and art galleries in this place.

Guess my favorite bit? The Cafes! Don’t forget to enjoy the exotic coffee at Espressofabriek and Screaming Beans Cafe– the good stuff!!

So, this was all about my offbeat trip to Amsterdam. I hope I have helped you in getting some insights. With these off-the-beaten-path activities, your trip to Amsterdam will be unique as well as memorable. Above all, you will have an amazing story to tell. So, what are you waiting for? Start planning ASAP!
