My tryst with Kashmir – Srinagar Diaries

It all really started with the idea of chilling in the mountains with fresh oxygen and organic food. Fast forward two weeks, as I write this travelogue, I can just feel the difference Kashmir has brought about in me. Be it a change in the perspective of looking at life or a psyche of understanding the blithesome humans of the valley whose smiles are fulfilling.

Boarding a flight from Amritsar to Srinagar, I was fortunate enough to experience the eagle’s eye view of the valley and the views blew my mind. Have a look at it yourself!

I was in a dilemma throughout my journey with escalating thoughts about safety, myriads of bubbles in front of my eyes glancing at these skies through the airplane window. Every single isolated negative thought vanished after everyone around me started welcoming me to Paradise on Earth with warm faces and lucid voices. The early morning tiring flight journey didn’t feel like one and I was ready to go on an emotional and adventurous rollercoaster journey in the valley.

My first question to Amjad Bhai was about the availability of Alcohol. His negative response did furious me at the moment but sometimes it’s the place and the people which can act as an intoxicant and Kashmir turned out to be one. After reaching my hotel, i.e. Walissons, and getting a quick bath, I went on to explore nearby food options. Fortunately, the local administration had opened up dining on the very same day after quite a long restricted season. Amazed by the food and the hospitality I received from the manager of the restaurant, I was in awe of the valley, its humans, and the vibe in disguise.

The next day, I decided to explore the Dal Jheel, i.e. the splendid Dal Lake, and went on a Shikara ride. Quick tip: Go for the Shikaras near Ghat no. 10 and beyond. The Dal Lake is also called ‘Mirror Lake’and it was while floating in this isolated and local part of the lake that I understood why! The sky, the clouds, the Shikaras, the homo sapiens, everything – everything above the lake was perfectly mirrored on the lake. Sheer Perfection! Chilled electrifying waves were ebullient in my entire existence.
Stretched out on the classic cushioned seat of the Shikara, talking in serenity with people around me was one of the best kinds of therapy that can ever be, take my word for it.
It left me thoroughly, at peace!
