Road Trip to Coorg

Are you someone with insatiable wanderlust and you are certainly looking for a chance to go on a road trip? We all know that nothing can beat the thrill of traveling by road. Road trips give you the liberty to stop anywhere in between and also explore the places coming on the way. Here, I will take you through my own experience of a road trip from Bangalore to Coorg.

Coorg, known as the Scotland of India is a breath-taking hill station situated in Karnataka. Scenic hills, lush green coffee plantations, elephant safaris, gorgeous waterfalls, culturable treasures are some of the great attractions of this place.

Just start imagining yourself waking up to the aroma of coffee and spices wafting through the misty air as the sun rises to spread its rays all around. In all its elemental essence, the land of Coorg is just so beautiful that you will not be able to get over this place any time soon. This has happened with me and I’m pretty sure of this happening with you too.

I can bet you on this that scenic vistas en route will soothe your eyes and your weary soul, the tranquillity you’ll experience here will be like never before. But before you put the pedal to the metal and get going, let’s gather some insights from my trip.

Best Time to travel

This place is at the highest point that is 1750 meters from the sea, so the weather here will be pleasant during the whole year. I visited this place during April, as it was the time of early summers, I could enjoy a lot more outdoor activity.

But if you are fond of chilly and misty weather then try visiting during the winter months.

Route to be Taken

The roads are super smooth and well-maintained that you would love to visit this place by road.

I know about two famous routes to get there. Both of the routes have their attractions and stoppages. You can choose based on which places you want to explore on the way.

Route 1: Kushalnagar Route Via Mysore- Madikeri Highway

If you want to avoid traffic on the way then start your journey by early morning. I got stuck in heavy traffic so just warned you before. It is around a 6 hours’ drive covering 275 Km approx. This route has some places to explore in between, so I would suggest visiting all of them to make your trip even more exciting and joyful.

You’ll find the below-given places on the way:

  • Bhagamadala Temple: Just awaken your sense of spirituality by visiting this temple located on the confluence of 3 rivers.
  • Abbi Falls: Trust Me! You just can’t miss this. Nestled among lush landscapes and coffee plantations, this place is a popular tourist attraction. I just feel like visiting this again super soon.
  • Coffee Plantations and Dubare Elephant Camp: On the way, I also came across some beautiful Madikeri coffee plantations and estates. After covering about 14 Km from Kushalnagar, I also found a place where I went for safari and river rafting.

Route 2: Nagarhole Route via NH275

If you just wanna enjoy mother nature’s beauty then this route has the calling for you. It is around a 7 hours’ drive covering 300 km approximately. You’ll get to visit Nagarhole National Park and Tiger Reserve on the way. They are home to Asiatic elephants with a huge diversity of flora and fauna, waterfalls, and forest land.

Best Food Points

  • Shanti Food Court, Kushalnagar: You can look towards this place for breakfast and some small meals. You will get multiple cuisine options and the food is also delicious.
  • Murali Military Hotel, Nagathihalli: This place is known for its amazing ambiance. You will find the traditional food options here.

Things to keep in Mind during Road Trip

  • Keep yourself loaded with eatables like packed meals and home-cooked food. You will find food points on the highway but not so easily in the local areas. So, better be ready with your stock.
  • Try starting your journey early morning as whenever you are going to a new place, daylight helps a lot in spotting things fast.
  • The local language is a barrier, so be familiar with using GPS since you can’t depend on locals for directions.

So, get ready with your plans to visit this place soon and share your experience with everyone out there.
