According to my experience, Rovaniemi is a great place to visit during the wintertime. You get the chance to experience the northern lights, go on a husky tour, and even visit Santa Claus! We had a lot of fun exploring the city and seeing everything in this small city. temperatures here drop below freezing during the winter months. The temperature in January was between -10º and -20º Celsiusc. However, the city offers many activities for visitors throughout the year. During wintertime, you may even witness the Northern Lights. In the summertime, hiking, cycling, and water sports are all available to fill the day. Rovaniemi is the perfect destination for those looking to experience nature, culture, and northern lights all in one trip. There are many outdoor activities available, so you should bring warm clothing and woollen socks. You will also need to prepare for very short days during the summer months and strong winds at night.
Rovaniemi is way more beautiful than whatever you’ve ever heard about this place. There’s a ride called “Santa Claus Express” which is a double-decker rail car that runs from Helsinki to Rovaniemi and helps you to explore Finland’s beauty. It’s one of the best ways to explore Finland’s stunningly beautiful Northern European countryside during wintertime. But what makes the trip even better is getting to enjoy a night’s sleep inside the private bunk beds. A delightful place called “Santa Claus village” is a heaven on earth. A person should visit here at least once in their lifetime. If you ever get a chance to visit Rovaniemi, do not forget the famous reindeer sled rides. Reindeer sleds have been transporting families and goods across Europe’s Arctic for as long as there have been people to pull. Apart from all this one of the best places to visit in Rovaniemi to get yourself acquainted with the local culture and history is the Korundi House of Culture, made up of the Chamber Orchestra of Lapland and the Rovaniemi Art Museum, located on the edge of the downtown core of Rovaniemi city.

If you are a person who loves adventures, you should surely visit this place. Rovaniemi is considered the “gateway to the Arctic” and provides a great jumping-off point for all the wintertime outdoor pursuits this unique area of the world offers. One of the most popular winter pastimes in Finnish Lapland is cross-country skiing, with one in five Finns identifying as active skiers. If you don’t think you’d be comfortable on skis or fussing with multiple pieces of rented equipment, snowshoeing makes a great mode of self-propelled transport across the well-groomed snow trails that zigzag through Finnish Lapland. One of the most amazing thing you’ll experience here is “the hunt for northern lights.” While the northern lights are visible in Finnish Lapland year-round, you can significantly up your chances of a shimmery sighting by planning your trip between September and March, when the sky really starts to light up. Most Rovaniemi adventure companies provide specific night time aurora borealis tours out into the surrounding Arctic Circle wilderness via snowmobile, snowshoeing, or skis. Ranua wildlife park is another amazing place with more than 50 species of arctic wildlife.
When we travel to places like these, food, most of the time, seems to be a big issue. A definite must eat on a trip to Rovaniemi is the dessert known as “bread cheese”, a type of soft cheese fried after initial preparation. Served with fresh cloudberries, it is a hearty dessert with a distinct, sweet taste. Some call it squeaky cheese due to the sound it makes when chewed.Another local staple is soft barley flatbread called “rieska”, usually enjoyed with butter. Several types of sweet pastries are also characteristic to Lapland. Hot chocolate in this place is so appetising that it will make you feel like home in a foreign country.
I had a really great experience of visiting such a beautiful place. This place is full of unexpected beautiful surprises that one will surely fall for the beauty of this place. It was a fully magical experience to travel to such a beautiful destination. In conclusion, I just want to suggest that each and every person should witness the beauty of nature from here at least once in their lifetime.
